Winter outfits 🩵

My no.1 style philosophy is to buy a few things you love and wear them over and over in loads of different ways. I’m actually really enjoying the styling challenge of being pregnant and only being able to wear a small proportion of my wardrobe because it’s basically forcing me to do a capsule wardrobe challenge. I’ve realised even more that if I love the options I have, I really don’t need that many of them!

In fact, apart from 1 pair of maternity jeans, all of these pieces are from my regular wardrobe and will be able to be worn after pregnancy too!

It’s such a world away from the fast fashion mindset I had in my 20s where I wanted new things all the time but I never loved anything I had because I always placed value on the quantity of what I was buying and not the quality.

Now I’m focused on quality: do I love it? Will it be useful in my wardrobe? Does it help me make more different kinds of outfits? Asking myself these questions helps me pick pieces I know I’m going to love and actually wear.

Now I’m just excited for spring and bare leg season and maybe maybe not having to wear a big coat!

It’s such a great layering piece but will also be perfect in hotter weather just with trainers and a denim jacket.

It’s easy to feel super powerless as an individu

It’s easy to feel super powerless as an individual, because we can’t change laws or make governments do the right thing.

But every time one person chooses to shop small instead of doing a fast fashion haul, it makes a positive difference. And if every one of the 70 million people who live in the UK swapped to one more ethical purchase a year then think what a difference that would be!

I don’t know if I’m about to confess to something totally abnormal but I don’t think about anything when I’m cutting out orders! I don’t listen to music or podcasts or anything… I’m just like a little blank NPC snipping away at the fabric!

Anyway, this month’s drop of limited edition denim dream dresses are all cut out and with my seamstress to be sewn into beautiful dresses 🤎

Such a big question but here’s a 3 minute answer

Such a big question but here’s a 3 minute answer!

The biggest thing for me was intuitive eating. Learning to eat as much as my body actually needed at meals which was more than I let myself eat before meant that I wasn’t hungry basically all the time, which meant food and hunger took up a much smaller portion of my brain and energy so I was able to focus on them less. It made eating so much more relaxed and enjoyable and much less of a fight.

Listening to podcasts like the amazing @maintenancephase also helped because it meant I learned the actual truth about weight and science rather than the fearmongering, which has made me a lot more confident about existing in a larger body and advocating for myself in health situations. It’s also really educated me on the ableist way that “health” (ie thinness) is thrown in the face of fat people without any actual care for health.

Diet culture is a huge toxic culture and there’s no magic bullet to escaping it; but honestly just wanting to try is the most important thing because it means your mind is open to another way of thinking which is the start of every journey of growth!

Down to my very last few quilted vests!! These have been such a smash hit and were SO popular at the last @saladdaysmarketlondon that I sold out of almost all my stock.

I’ve only got the following left…
❤️ 1 x XL ready to ship in red

Everyone who touched one on Saturday remarked on how soft and cosy they are because the fabric is 100% cotton and the padding is cotton too, unlike the cheap stiff polyester padding you get in bland high street versions.

They’re also 100% machine washable too just in case of any coffee based incidents 😵‍💫

So if you like to be cosy and look cute too, make sure you snap yours up before I run out of fabric as there will be no restock of these!!

I haven’t really seen people talking about the connection between these two toxic things, but for me a massive part of getting out of fast fashion was getting out of diet culture.

Leaving diet culture meant I finally accepted my body was just going to be this size and I finally felt able to invest in pieces for the long term without this thought at the back of my mind that I shouldn’t bother because I might change size.

Leaving these toxic influences has been incredibly healing for me and I don’t think I could have ever escaped one without the other.
